An open letter from Gary Mayo:
One of the biggest favors you can do for yourself is learn the difference between these two words:
Activity
Accomplishment
Today a couple came by my studio and asked me how much it would cost to re-pierce his tongue. I told him $40
He had it done a couple of days ago for $25 somewhere else. It became infected and was growing inside his tongue because it was swollen the size of a tennis ball.
He was with his girlfriend who also had her tongue pierced for $25
Hers was also swollen, sore and pierced crooked
So, they spent $50, for jacked up piercings, went through a whole bunch of pain and discomfort and had nothing left to show for their money except one crooked swollen piercing.
So was that activity? or was that accomplishment?
Had they came to me, I would have used 316-LVM jewelry (not china junk) I would have mapped their tongues with special equipment not available at other piercers I would have pierced their tongue after thoroughly cleaning the tongue and numbing it a process that takes over ten minutes
I would have used my ten plus years experience on over 35,000 procedures to make sure the job was not done to a $25 standard.
I would have sent them out the door with all the supplies they need to care for their tongue as well as a book on how to take care of body art at no extra cost! They received nothing from the other place, not even a piece of paper telling what to do (violation of state & county law)
So now they are going to pay me $40 each to do it right Something they wished they had done in the first place. That will be accomplishment, not just wasted activity.
